Family, friends, colleagues, and members of the Greek Orthodox community are mourning the loss of Dean Spiro Dussias, a highly respected attorney, devoted husband and father, and cherished friend, who passed away on June 14, 2026, at the age of 61.

Surrounded by the love of his family during his final days, Dean leaves behind a remarkable legacy defined by professional excellence, unwavering faith, deep compassion, and a lifelong commitment to the people he loved most.

A resident of Hinsdale, Illinois, and Naples, Florida, Dean was the beloved husband of Maria Dussias, his childhood sweetheart and partner of 35 years. Their love story began when they were just eleven years old and grew into a marriage that spanned decades, creating a foundation built on friendship, devotion, and family. Together they raised three children—Stephanie, Sammy, and Arthur—who were the pride and joy of his life.

Above all else, Dean was a dedicated family man. Friends and relatives often spoke of his devotion to his wife and children, describing him as a loving father who treasured every opportunity to spend time with those closest to him. Whether traveling abroad, enjoying family dinners, spending time on the golf course, or gathering in Naples, he believed that life’s greatest blessings were found in shared experiences and meaningful relationships.

Born and raised in the Chicago area, Dean pursued a distinguished educational path that included Koraes Elementary School, Andrew High School, Loyola University, and the University of Illinois College of Law. He went on to establish an extraordinary legal career, earning widespread respect throughout Illinois and the national legal community.

As a founding principal of Dussias Wittenberg Koenigsberger LLP, Dean became one of Illinois’ most recognized family law attorneys. Throughout his career, he received numerous honors, including recognition from Best Lawyers in America, Leading Lawyers, and Illinois Super Lawyers. His peers admired not only his legal knowledge and advocacy skills but also the empathy, wisdom, and professionalism he demonstrated in every case he handled.

His leadership within the legal profession extended far beyond his own practice. Dean served as President of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and contributed his expertise as a board member of the Hellenic Bar Association. His influence helped shape the profession while mentoring younger attorneys and supporting colleagues throughout his career.

Outside the courtroom, Dean embraced life with enthusiasm and gratitude. He enjoyed golf, music, fishing, travel, and creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. He cherished time spent at Butterfield Country Club, Naples National Golf Club, Chileno Bay Club, and The Dunes Club. Whether playing guitar, listening to The Rolling Stones, or sharing stories with loved ones, he brought joy and energy to every gathering.

Faith also played a central role in his life. A devoted Greek Orthodox Christian, Dean lived according to the values of kindness, humility, generosity, and service. His faith guided his personal and professional life and inspired the compassion he extended to others.

Those who knew Dean often describe him as someone who possessed a rare ability to make everyone feel important. His intelligence, humor, generosity, and larger-than-life personality left a lasting impression wherever he went. He was the type of person who could light up a room with his presence while making others feel welcomed, appreciated, and valued.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Stella and Spiro Dussias. In addition to his wife and children, he is survived by his brother Tom Dussias; mother-in-law Elsa Kukulas; siblings-in-law Stacey Christos and Paul Kukulas; as well as numerous extended family members, friends, colleagues, and loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, located at 11025 South Roberts Road in Palos Hills, Illinois. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m., with the funeral service beginning immediately afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church or the Butterfield Scholarship Program.

As loved ones gather to celebrate his life, they do so with gratitude for the countless memories he created, the lives he touched, and the example he set through his faith, family values, and professional accomplishments.
