In Loving Memory of Gregory Roth
The Whaleyville community is mourning the tragic loss of Gregory Roth, 79, of Ocean City, Maryland, who died following a fatal two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening near the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and MD Route 610.
According to Maryland State Police, troopers from the Berlin Barrack responded to the scene shortly before 9:30 p.m. after reports of a serious collision. Investigators said Roth was driving a silver 2010 Nissan Altima northbound on MD Route 610 when the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection of westbound U.S. Route 50.
Authorities said the Nissan then collided with a black 2014 Ford F-150 traveling westbound on Route 50. Roth, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency medical personnel.
The driver of the Ford F-150 was not seriously injured and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Following the crash, westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 were closed for an extended period as investigators worked to document the scene and gather evidence. The Worcester County Sheriff’s Office assisted troopers, along with the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, which helped manage traffic control and road closures.
News of Roth’s passing has brought sadness to those who knew him, as family, friends, and members of the community reflect on his life and the memories he leaves behind. Loved ones are now faced with the difficult task of coming to terms with a sudden and unexpected loss.
As the Maryland State Police Crash Team continues its investigation, officials are working to determine all contributing factors involved in the collision. Autopsy results are pending from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
For those grieving, the focus now turns to honoring Gregory Roth’s life and remembering the impact he had on those around him. His passing serves as a reminder of how quickly tragedy can strike and how deeply it can affect families and communities.
May he rest in peace.
