Sue E. Gettinger Death, Obituary: 70-Year-Old Woman Killed, Two Teens Injured in Fatal Wayne County Head-On Crash

Family, friends, and members of the Greens Fork community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of Sue E. Gettinger, 70, who tragically lost her life following a devastating head-on crash in Wayne County on Saturday afternoon, June 13, 2026.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at approximately 12:30 p.m. to reports of a serious motor vehicle accident on State Road 38, just east of Jacksonburg Road. Initial reports indicated a violent head-on collision involving two vehicles, with multiple people trapped and suffering serious injuries. Emergency responders, including deputies, firefighters, and EMS personnel, quickly arrived at the scene to begin rescue efforts.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2013 Ford Focus, driven by a 16-year-old male from Centerville, Indiana, was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, the vehicle crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with a 2011 Nissan being driven by Sue E. Gettinger of Greens Fork. Another 16-year-old male was traveling as a passenger inside the Ford Focus.

Authorities confirmed that Sue E. Gettinger suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene. Her life was tragically cut short in an accident that has deeply shaken the local community. Meanwhile, both teenage occupants of the Ford Focus had to be extricated from the wreckage by emergency crews due to the severity of the impact. The young driver was airlifted by CareFlight to Miami Valley Hospital, while the passenger was transported to Reid Health for further treatment.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. As family and friends mourn this painful loss, many are remembering Sue E. Gettinger for the life she lived and the memories she leaves behind.
